Scout's Honor Co.

Although the stationary itself is more classic than alternative, I first read about Scouts Honor Co. in the October issue of Nylon. I have run out of room for stationary that I do not use nearly enough, but I can be forward thinking (weddings?...too far forward). As of now, retail orders are not available but the "Shop" section on the website says "Coming soon." I sure do hope!
To read more about Scouts Honor Co., check here. But if you are a paper addict like I am, be prepared to drool over the blog.

Weekend in Review

Just a few shots from my Thanksgiving weekend. I hope everyone who celebrates had a wonderful holiday. Pictures of some great Black Friday finds to come!

Black and Blue Friday

When my photography teacher gave us the assignment of "Disquieting Images" for our Halloween critique, the first thought that sprang to mind was using my friend Emma's (the one with the "bloody nose"; the other model is my roommate, Ari) makeup skills and creating a series of portraits. Because she works at a haunted house, she has loads of experience painting on wounds, bruises, and dark circles. Despite the serious nature of the photo shoot, we had a lot of fun (and I even rewarded them with a series of jumping/ stop motion pictures). Although the assignment was for a film based class, I have been trying to capture everything digitally as well.

Here is one of my black and white prints that I have done this year. I have built up quite a portfolio of darkroom images and whenever I think that I couldn't possibly take another year of traditional photography, I fall in love with black and white all over again. I have begun the process of scanning all of my pictures from this semester onto my computer, so expect a post soon!

P.S. I hope everyone scores some great deals today, just don't come out of any fights looking like my friends ;).

I'm Thankful For...iPhone Edition

One of the things I probably take most for granted is my iPhone. To show my little 3G some love, I thought I would post some of the pictures of things that I appreciate that I've taken since college. After all, these are the things that I feel the need to capture forever, no matter the quality of the photograph (which, according to Annie Lebovitz, ain't too bad).
Donuts. Seriously. They might be one of the absolute worst foods that you can consume. But I love them and I'm standing by it. A dozen original glazed is always on my list of things to do when I'm around Krispy Kreme (sorry Dunkin fans).
The amazing full length mirror on the back of my door. I have lost track of how many impromptu outfit shots that I've done in that thing. With my wide angle lens, I can't even get the whole outfit in one shot. But the mirror is ENDLESSLY flattering. Everyone who comes in the dorm room says so. As a side note, pictured above is the outfit I wore to my first day of classes.
My hands. I put my hands through a pretty rough life. This was what both left and right looked like after working on a piece for my introduction to drawing class. Hands are my favorite part of the body because of their endless capacity and beauty.
Being able to go to college to do something that I love. I seriously love my school and all of my classes. I may feel a little bit of wanderlust every now and then, but then something reminds me about all the amazing things about my college and college in general. It is truly a privilege to go to a private school, or go to college at all.
My clothes. (Pictured above is my Halloween costume- fifties housewife. I didn't have to buy a single thing new!)Despite being able to spend hours looking for more things to add to my wardrobe, whenever I look at my carefully curated (and color coordinated) collection of clothes I am overwhelmed with appreciation. Many people who come from even more financially well off families than I don't have as many items of clothing that I do. I usually have to take a step back and see things in perspective, but I am wonderfully grateful for how many hours of work and generous hearts that my wardrobe represents.
Energel pens. I don't think I could make it through college without them. And yes, I might have a slight addiction. No regrets.
Going to a college with animals (and cats in general). One of my favorite parts about my college campus is the fact that there are campus pets everywhere! No, we aren't lucky enough to have them in the dorms (although our resident directors have that privilege, and an adorable dog as well). But there are plenty of opportunities for some kitty therapy! Petzel, pictured above, is definitely a wonderful solution to a bad day. Also, I just love cats.
A boyfriend who has good taste (and obligatory statement about friends and family). Despite my isolationist tendencies at times, I have an abundance of people in my life who care about me. I have such a huge family and friends who really are always there for me. And, most importantly, my boyfriend picked out these red pants all by himself. And he was so pleased with them/himself.

Extra Credit

 Out take!

Breton striped tee, Old Navy. Fluffy skirt, Gap Kids. Leather flats, Land's End. Belt, vintage. Necklace, Armani Exchange.

Perhaps it was because my last class before the holidays was French (my first foray into the language) or perhaps I was just feeling a little bit jovial, but I just knew I had to wear one of my petticoat skirts to class yesterday. Because of my inclination to get the heck outta dodge (or dorm, rather), I decided to opt for another indoor photo shoot. As it turns out, though, loft beds make the perfect holder for backdrops and quilts make the perfect backdrop. Maybe using things wisely is something that I've picked up from my first semester?

The Little Things: 003

The Little Things: 003
Recent purchases with warm, autumnal tones: Although I haven't had the chance to flaunt too many of these cool weather purchases yet, the burgundies, browns, and greys that keep popping up in my purchasing habits are fine by me.
Image transfers from old Polaroid film: After submitting my Advanced Placement portfolio, I accumulated quite a bit of work that I was eager to share. This fun piece is hanging over my bed in my dorm (although I'm bummed I don't have room for the typewriter here).
Different forms of lights during the night time: My school's homecoming dance was definitely a night to be remembered. Put any dance on a boat and I think it becomes instantly (and infinitely) classier.
Clothing with a sense of 1950s nostalgia: I was tempted to wear my saddle shoes, but my mom told me I'd be in costume.

Weekend Wonderland

Shirt, scarf, WalMart. Cargo skinnies, Sanctuary. Shoes, Land's End. Sweater, Crazy 8 children's store.

One thing that I've noticed about November is that it coincides with the most beautiful sunsets of the year. Every season I make a habit of pinpoint the hours that are greatest for light, but the pictures of me above were pure luck. My boyfriend and I had pulled over at a gas station to switch out driving and I insisted upon a picture being taken (if not only for the quality of the light to be remembered, also because I wanted to show off my new bargain scarf). I had a really lovely weekend, and get to take another needed break from reality after only two days of classes. What was your favorite activity of this past weekend?

San Antonio Zoo

Recently, I went on a trip to San Antonio, Texas for a cross country meet. Only six of the runners (myself included) were invited to go as it was a (basically) all expenses paid trip for the regional Division III meet. But more importantly...we went to the zoo! It was really relaxing after the race and a good way to cool our legs down from all that activity. I thought I'd share the pictures that I thought were the cutest. What's your favorite animal to see at the zoo?

Drawing Machine

One of the assignments for my Introduction to Drawing class was to create a "drawing machine". We could use any materials and any forms for the machine; the only rule was that it has to make a minimum of twenty marks. Although I implement painting more than any other element, I wanted to create something that could be used as a piece of decor as well. The colors I used all match the colors in my dorm room, and despite the Jackson Pollock nature of the finished piece, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I'll probably experiment with more colors/wallpaper in the future. It's a very fun process!
