A Few of My Favorite Links

Although we hate to admit it, during the sweet break from school we affectionately refer to as summer break, we often find ourselves with a lack of things to do. Maybe I am only speaking for myself, but with as much free time that I have, I have been able to round up a few links for your enjoyment and entertainment.

1. My Daguerreotype Boyfriend: The tagline of this tumblr reads "Where early photography meets extreme hotness." The two portraits above are from the Mountjoy Prison Collection, but I'll leave it up to you to sift through the wonderful site to found out more about these bad boys. Anything that combines eye candy with vintage photography is perfect in my book.

2. Pokemon & Fashion: Fashion junkies and nerds can now rejoice! The cute little Pokemon creatures are now featured alongside fashion's top names in a thoroughly cohesive and thoughtful manner. Even if you don't play the video games, the perfect combination will still leave you giggling with delight.

3. thx thx thx: With over 9,000 likes on Facebook and a published book, it is no surprise that thx thx thx is so wonderful. I spent a good hour on the website upon first discovery, enjoying the appreciative and sometimes sarcastic nature of the notes. I guarantee you won't be disappointed by Leah's daily dose of gratitude.

Festival Fun

Headband, DIY. Shirt, French Connection via consignment shop. Shorts, AE. Belt and backpack, vintage. Shoes, Walmart.

Although I might not have had the privilege of attending an actual music festival like Bonnaroo or Coachella, I did get to take part in some small, local festivities. Every summer, my home town has a festival to celebrate our unique heritage and foundation. Vendors from surrounding counties set up booths selling handmade or antique goods and charities set up booths to inform the citizens about ways to help the community. Of course, one of my favorite part of all the fun is the food.

Summer is the perfect season for munching on some funnel cake with friends and family. Actually, for me, summer is just the perfect season.

Road Trip, Kind Of

Instead of doing anything stressful and time consuming, a few of my friends and I planned a quick jaunt to some lake front property as soon as school got out. It seriously could not have been more perfect. The weather was great the entire time and the lake view was exactly what I needed after the stresses of high school. It set the perfect tone for summer and  I hope many more adventures are on the way!

When I Come Around

Romper, local boutique. Bralette, Francesca's Collections. Shoes, Coach. Necklace, American Eagle. Lipstick, Revlon Moon Drops Lipstick in Orange Flip.

When I was in fourth grade I would neither touch nor say the color pink. Pink was referred to as "Puh" and purple was "Puhpuh". Although now I realize that made me sound more like a ten month old than a ten year old, I was a football card collecting, Pokemon playing, double agent for the boys during recess wars tomboy.  From the time I was in third grade until sixth grade I had a hard time shopping in the little girls department for clothing. I reassured my parents it was a phase.
Still a tomboy at heart, I had to do a little victory dance in the fitting room when I found this ruffly, pink, floral number. It may not seem like seventy five percent of my friends are boys, but I always like the element of surprise. Even if I can stand the color pink now, my dresser still contains a substantial collection of cargo pants.

Paper or Plastic?

Shirt, WalMart. Shorts, American Eagle. Shoes, Gap. Bag, The Sak. Journal, Borders. Friendship bracelets, Tybee Island.

I haven't been interested in what people refer to as "booty shorts" (at least, in my town) in a long time. I love to take a pair of scissors to some old pants as much as the next gal, but I'm becoming increasingly more modest about the length and tightness of the shorts in question. My perfect solution is definitely these paper bag shorts. Available in many different varieties across the mall right now, they are easily dressed up or down and comfortable even in 95 degree weather. And don't get me started on how much I love these Gap sandals, or I might just type all day.
Also, for your daily dose of cute, here is a picture of how my dog has started sleeping lately:

Givy SS2011

The Korean clothing line Givy's Spring/Summer 2011 lookbook epitomizes everything I love for summer. I love the offbeat color choices, the interesting combination of color, print, and texture, and the sweet, mod cut of the clothes. My particular favorites are the dress from the third picture and the coat from the fourth. Have a look at the Givy website for more inspiration. Also please ignore any terminology you might find associated with Givy on Urban Dictionary.

Everybody Wants to be a Cat

Dress, bralet, and sunglasses, Francesca's Collections. Shoes, Coach. Bag, vintage. Nail polish, Lickety Split Lime from Sally Hansen Instadry (the best).

I have always loved cats. Don't get me wrong, dogs have their strong points, too. But from the moment I decided Marie Kitty from the Aristocats was an appropriate role model ("Ladies don't start fights, but they can finish them"), the pointy-eared pets have had a special place in my heart. Luckily for me, I have built up a reputation as a cat sitter. My mother has taken to calling me "The Queen of the Kitties".
Before I further convince you that I am a crazy cat lady, this dress would win over even the most ardent dog lover. The tiny black cats make me feel purrfectly adorable, and it will be the perfect dress in October as well.
Also, my boyfriend deserves a shout out for helping me out with these pictures and several more.
That's kind of the face he makes when I ask him to take outfit pictures.
Reid and I have been dating for over two years. Even if he isn't exactly into the whole fashion thing, he certainly supports me and helps me out. He is usually the first person I ask "Do I already have too much like this?". And we also kind of have an understanding that even if something might not be his favorite, I will probably wear it anyways. Maybe he'll make more appearances soon.

She May Be Young, But She Only Likes Old Things

Sunglasses, Target. Shirt, Gap. Skirt, Gap Kids. Belt and bag, vintage. Shoes, Jeffrey Campbell.

I have lusted after THAT American Apparel fluffy petticoat for well over a year now. However, when I saw this Gap Kids number in similar color palettes for $16 and buy one get one half off...I knew the American Apparel skirt was not a purchase I would be making. I have the fluffy number in a kids size XXL/16 in both pink and this creamy yellow and I cannot stop wearing them.
This outfit is what I wore to a triple graduation party with the purposefully annoying dress code of "dressy casual". I almost wore my KSwiss white sneakers with this, but I have to show my JCs some love (considering they are THE most expensive shoes I own). The best part of the party was the fondue.

In other news, I got some interesting camera equipment and am graduating high school later today (considering it is 1:08 A.M. at my time of writing). Recently, some friends and I also took a weekend off at the lake and I have plenty of photos to share from this adventure. Hope all is well and hope you are enjoying summer!
