The Urban Explorer

Striped dress, J. Crew. Cream jacket, Forever 21. Vintage leather Dooney & Bourke purse. Floral heels, Jeffrey Campbell. Necklace, c/o Frock Stock. Thanks to Reid for the pictures!

This outfit was based entirely on what I wanted to wear with my new Frock Stock necklace. It reminded me of galavanting around, looking for new places to explore. While those Jeffrey Campbell heels probably aren't the best for walking around, I felt like they had to be worn with my favorite J. Crew dress.
I had such a good time on Friday when I was wearing this outfit. I'm finally done shooting for my final photography project for school (you can expect more narratives coming your way soon!) and the rest of my classes have been regularly tapering off. My school had our "spring fling" on Friday, and although I didn't get any pictures, I must say that Reid and I made a smashing pair. Overall, I had a great weekend to mark the beginning of the end of my freshman year of college (so weird!).

Alice in Wonderland: Part Two

Photography and styling by yours truly.

I hate to leave Alice with the Red Queen forever, but this is actually where my narrative stops. There is a possibility of adding some more characters into the mix in the future (Cheshire cat, the caterpillar...), but for now, I am at the end of my rope with this narrative project. I have preferences for which pictures from this series I prefer, but I don't want to influence any viewers' opinions. Tell me which ones (from part one and part two) that you have liked the best!
I am always very critical of my own work after I've finished it, but I definitely had financial/time issues with this project. Hopefully, when I decide to do something like this in a more professional way, I'll have learned what to do and also have other team members responsible for some of the things other than the pictures themselves.
And on a final note, I'll be scanning in the polaroids from this shoot as well! I had a ton of fun mixing it up with my tiny Polaroid so I hope you enjoy seeing the results of those!

Alice in Wonderland: Part One

Photography, styling, and set: yours truly.
Make-up assistance: Emma.
Models are all classmates!

Honestly, these pictures turned out better than I could have hoped for. This is by far the most extensive preparation I've ever undertaken for any shoot and I am looking forward to more projects like this in the future! When I see the final results like this, I have to say it was worth the unhealthy lifestyle I've (accidentally) fallen prey to for the past few days in order to pull this all off. I still have a couple shots left to edit of Alice's further adventures in Wonderland, so check back soon for her experiences with the red queen!

Alice in Wonderland Sneak Peak

Styling, set design, and photography by yours truly. Make up by me and my friend Emma.

I am so excited to be building up a reputation on campus for having fun with photo shoots. My friends are so wonderful to help me out with my insane ideas, but they are usually thrilled to be asked to model. I am so happy with the way that everything has been going creatively in the past few weeks, but I have to admit that the physical and financial strain is a little bit exhausting. I definitely want to make it a tradition to pose with all of my models/crew because I'll definitely treasure these pictures when it comes to college memories.
Emma and Matt might not have been in costume, but they helped me out SO much setting things up, doing make up, hauling these ladies around to the locations...my gratitude is endless for all these lovely people!

The Haunting Refrain

Floral shirt, Urban Outfitters via clothing exchange. Tulle maxi skirt, Forever 21. Camel cashmere cardigan, gift from my mother (Dillard's). Vintage leather belt. Bow ballet flats, thrifted. Black lace clutch, Jason Wu for Target.

This skirt is a production. With it's layers of swishy tulle, witchy color, and wonderful length, I always feel like a bit of  a drama queen when I put it on. Needless to say, the overly dramatic attitude that comes from the tulle rustling around my legs as I run down stairs needs to only be saved for special occasions. Although I definitely think of this skirt as a timeless piece in my wardrobe, I've only photographed it one other time.  It's not that I don't enjoy wearing it, but it is a bit of a weather conundrum as it is lined with very warm fabric underneath the tulle.
The weather has truly been bipolar here in East Tennessee, but at least it gave me a chance to dip into some country-witch vibes one last time before summer is here and I am feeling girly and carefree.

Tidbits of Romance

Just a few small glances into the wonderful anniversary date that Reid planned for me last Friday. With a little help from my mom and the rest of my family, he really blew me away. No wonder I've held on to him for the past three years!

The Vintage Illusionist

Black tee shirt, BCBGeneration. Brocade lace skirt, Altar'd State. Draped cardigan, Anthropologie. Vintage belt, Margaret Smith bag, and shoes.

Although there are no real illusions present in my outfit from last Friday, something about the last photograph I took made me think that I seemed like I would pull a disappearing act (below the text). Maybe it was the haunting mood around the graveyard or the somewhat odd expressions on my face, but looking back on these pictures gives me a sense of unease in the best possible way.
I'm not big on the cheesy frightening things in horror movies, but I always seem to have the best connections with places or items with a lot of history behind them. I'm fascinated by somewhat creepy things while at the same time being too superstitious to bring vintage pictures of strangers into my house.
Do you have any interests that others might consider odd? What are your superstitious hang ups? It's a fascinating thing to learn about people, especially when applied to the realm of archetypes/the collective unconscious.
