His & Hers: White Button Up

One of the most under utilized item in my wardrobe is my plethora of white button up shirts. I have shirts from thrift stores and J Crew and everything in between, but I often think of them as too basic to wear often. Patrick has a few white button up shirts as well, although he was contemplating on how to style them in a more casual manner as opposed to professional. This week, we chose to style a basic white button up in order to tackle the challenges we saw with the basic piece.

Hers:
White button up shirt, Old Navy. Red oversized sweater, Target (no longer available). Pistachio Jubilee necklace, Ruche. Staten Island clutch in mint, Francesca's. Cargo skinny pants, Sanctuary. Lace up boots, F21.

As great of a basic as a white button up is, I always feel as though it is a little bit too basic without the proper accessories and some layers. In the summer, I'm all for a more minimalistic approach to getting dressed, but layers are what make winter bearable. I thought that the palette of mint and red was the perfect way to add some interest to my white shirt. A collar peeking out from a loose fit sweater is a favorite style of mine, so I can definitely see myself utilizing this combination during the transition to spring. The mint necklace from Ruche really sealed the deal and brought the outfit up a notch.

His:
White button up and argyle sweater, gifts. Pea coat, Old Navy. Plaid tie, thrifted. Red skinny jeans, Target. Black sneakers, Jack Threads.

After our his & hers shoot last week, Patrick remarked that he wanted to blend his comfortable clothes with his dressier clothes to create outfits that were in between professional and casual. I think he really hit the perfect balance here. While the top half of his outfit is very put together, he kept it more casual and classroom friendly with his jeans and sneakers. He also always has a great knack for mixing the prints in his closet and I thought the plaid tie with the argyle sweater looked great.

I always think it is interesting to see how well our outfits coordinate, although we only choose one basic element to style and leave it at that. I hope how we've styled our basic white button up shirts has given you some ideas on how to spruce up your own basics! Make sure you come back next Friday for another installment of His & Hers for more

I love the idea of mixing professional with casual...it's what I try to do in my everyday outfits when I don't want to be "dressy" but I still want to look nice. I love the outfits that you two came up with! And these pictures are too cute!
