The Queen of Hearts

Something about those sunglasses just made me ham it up.
Heart print dress, Bear Traps boots, vintage wool sweater, all thrifted. Vintage Dooney & Bourke purse. Key necklace, Reverie for Madewell. Blue tights and round sunglasses, Target.

Although it is pretty frustrating that the weather called for tights, it did give me an excuse to pull out one of my favorite pairs from last season. These opaque blue tights are just the right amount of drama for any outfit and I thought they complimented my heart print dress perfectly.
One thing that I am particularly proud of in this outfit is the fact that the only things purchased new were the sunglasses and tights. The necklace was purchased from the Madewell store in NYC, but it utilizes vintage materials. As far as only buying used apparel, it is an idea that I have toyed with often. Whenever I want to incorporate something trendy into my outfit, I either find that I own a similar piece already or can find an item from the actual decade it originated from in a thrift or vintage store.
I might not be an environmental crusader, but I find a lot of my practices are pretty sustainable by necessity. I prefer the uniqueness of vintage clothes and while I enjoy supporting lesser know, home grown designers and artists, this falls under the category of companies whose environmental and labor practices are something I can stand behind. I don't always succeed in the ethics of fashion, but I think that this is an important direction that fashion is going in and something to open up for debate.

P.S.- The post title is of course an allusion to Alice in Wonderland...another narrative photo series that you will be seeing very soon.
