The Little Things: 003

The Little Things: 003
Recent purchases with warm, autumnal tones: Although I haven't had the chance to flaunt too many of these cool weather purchases yet, the burgundies, browns, and greys that keep popping up in my purchasing habits are fine by me.
Image transfers from old Polaroid film: After submitting my Advanced Placement portfolio, I accumulated quite a bit of work that I was eager to share. This fun piece is hanging over my bed in my dorm (although I'm bummed I don't have room for the typewriter here).
Different forms of lights during the night time: My school's homecoming dance was definitely a night to be remembered. Put any dance on a boat and I think it becomes instantly (and infinitely) classier.
Clothing with a sense of 1950s nostalgia: I was tempted to wear my saddle shoes, but my mom told me I'd be in costume.

  • Abandoned buildings: Living in a fairly agricultural state, I often see a lot of abandoned farms and other types of buildings. Oddly enough, this building used to be a restaurant and is now on a main highway. It's weird how these things tend to slip through the cracks, but I truly admire the beauty in things falling apart.
  • Fat stack of magazines: I have magazines from the January to the March issue just waiting to be dissected. I always do an initial run though with magazines and then come back later to rip/cut out every single thing I find inspiring.
  • The Triple Bind: This book essentially sums up what it is like to be a girl nowadays, with a nice shout out to blogging and the internet. It actually shows the true nature of societies pressures on girls and divides it into (you guessed it) three contradictory expectations that are usually had for girls today.
  • Seeing my work on display: There is something wildly gratifying about seeing something I put so much hard work in hanging on the walls for an art show.
What little things are you loving this week?

The Little Things: 001

The past weekend was full of sunshine and glorious weather, especially for late January. However, typically winter stretches my limits of optimism. I always find joy in the minute details of my life. For instance, hearing an old favorite song on a mix CD that a friend gave me, then seeing a family of deer, while driving across town made my day even more wonderful. But when things aren't going right, I want to be able to focus on all the things I love the most.
Thus, my new feature was born. Every so often, I'll be posting pictures of the little things that are putting a smile on my face.

  • Painting outside: The weather was so glorious last Sunday that I could not just sit inside to paint. I had to take in the sights, sounds, and smells of the day. I was so excited that even dragging the furniture and supplies outside was fun.
  • Panera Valentine Petite cookies: A spin on their original shortbread cookie, this cute little bag contains the secret to sheer delight. While it probably isn't the best treat for those on a diet, they also sell heart-shaped cookies in single servings. I look at that bright pink frosting and immediately feel happier.
  • Rusty things: I always try to stop and take pictures of things that are old and worn. This bus was no exception.
  • Birds: While I don't think that owning one as a pet is the road I'm on, I am enamored with birds and all their related subjects (birdhouses, cages, etc.).
What are some little things that you are delighting in this week?
