The Leaping Doll

Photography by Laura P. from my Art 224 class. I don't have a link for any of the rest of her work, but trust me, she'll be a household name some day.

I really enjoyed JUST being in front of the camera for a change. When our photography professor announced that our portrait assignment would be taking pictures of members of the class, I was elated that I was assigned as Laura's model. The photographs which will be turned in for a grade were taken in black and white film, but I asked her to snap a few digital shots on my camera because I thought her concept was so cool.
We shot for about two hours in various locations (and in those shoes!), after which I was very tired and very hungry. Luckily today was National Pancake Day so I rounded up some friends and went to IHOP for dinner (free pancakes!). I made a few changes in my outfit and off we went.
Dress, Rodarte for Target. Velvet bolero and Dooney & Bourke purse, vintage. Belt, thrifted. Shoes, Gap.

Although we had to use flash (which explains a few things about the photos: my crazed/stunned look in the first and my demonic eyes, but I wanted to give a very accurate portrait of the "real me" after the very stylized model images), I am definitely grateful that my room mate, Ari, indulged my outfit chronicling obsession. This is another one of those outfits that just made my heart sing with how "right" it felt for me. That belt is absolutely perfect for cinching that dress and I love all the different elements at work. Enough bragging on my own outfit, though, I want to know YOUR thoughts!

P.S. I hope you all have a perfectly magical Leap Day!

A Spot in my Heart

When I was younger, I was always on the hunt for the perfect "spot". I saw them in my daydreams. I made elaborate plans involving planting flowers and possibly a secret garden. I think to an extent, everyone dreams of having a place like this. Although the terminology might not be so simple as what I still use from my days as a kid, "spot" ended up being the perfect title for the location of today's outfit post. Not only have I truly found my spot (in more ways than one, I really am enjoying college), but it was just too perfect that I came to this realization while wearing this polka dot intensive outfit.
Spot On top, c/o Sugarlips. Shorts, LC by Lauren Conrad. Bag, The Sak. Shoes, Land's End. Starry Night necklace, Ann Taylor (Christmas present from Reid...he's just the best).

How perfect is it that my affinity for polka dots was aided so by Sugarlips? When I was contacted to choose something to wear, it was a pretty difficult thing to narrow down what I really wanted. But in the end, I was more than happy to receive this perfect little silky top. It's classic with just a little bit of cheekiness- my ideal combination.
Yesterday was a Monday that was heaven sent. And in case I wasn't relaxed enough...here's me doing a little stretching on "my" bridge:
(I think I was barefoot more often than not for this shoot!)

Charlotte Taylor A/W 2012

Charlotte Taylor consistently impresses me with her designs. Although pretty new to the scene, her prints fascinate me. While the pieces themselves are pretty basic, the prints make my heart sing with their intricacy. I'm fascinated by the incorporation of literal animals into prints, as I've talked about in my post here, but what really blew me away about this collection was the story behind it. I've given the static images for your perusal on my blog, but you truly need to look at the lifelike cinemagraphs on the website. Be sure to check out the fascinating story of "Jamaican Inn" while you are at it (put into much better words than I ever could).

Sunlight and Shadows

Love how you can see Reid's shadow. So much more endearing than the shadow of a tripod!
Sweater, J. Crew. Olive skinny jeans, Sanctuary denim. Shoes, thrifted. Dooney & Bourke bag, vintage. Sunglasses, Ray-Ban. Cat, model's own ;).
Pictures by Reid!

Although I am the last person you'll hear complaining about rising temperatures, I feel as though my days of thick sweater wearing are dwindling rapidly. I adore knit sweaters for colder temperatures, so a part of me was a little bit happy that I could get away with this one for my outfit on Saturday. I had a wonderful, relaxing weekend with Reid and my family (and my kitties!) to remind me the perks of going home.
As far as my title goes, the pictures reminded me of old memories. I thought of old memories like shadows constantly being cast on people, for good or for bad. Luckily for me, the shadow cast on my in the picture above is indeed full of good memories ;).

P.S. Happy to have been featured in an article on Flingly! by Erica Baldi (Blue is in Fashion this Year)

The Classics

Button down, Gap. Cashmere cardigan, gift from my mom. Pants, vintage Ralph Lauren. Bag, H&M. Shoes, store in Baltimore. Vintage belt.
Pictures by Reid!

Typically, I don't pretend to be some sort of wardrobe guru who should espouse the "basics everyone needs in their wardrobe". I think that those items are different for everyone. But when it comes to me, I have found that this camel cardigan is something I can wear every day. Not only that, but these red pants are quickly replacing jeans as my go to casual pants of choice. I've worn them several times this year, and I finally got some pictures taken.
I always feel like I look much happier and more lively when Reid is taking my pictures. I'm a lucky girl.

Faded Impressions

Cardigan, Old Navy. Belt, blouse, shorts, purse, and necklace, all vintage. Shoes, Lands End. Watch, Timex. Bracelet, DIY.
Yes that is a cemetery gate.

Other than the fact that the light was dappled to perfect at the gate of the cemetery we have on campus, I feel a certain sense of peace associated with the generations of "somebodies" from the college buried there. I'd love nothing better than to make a lasting impression on a place of education or the world at large. I thought it was appropriate to leave my faded reminder on my hand in going with the theme of today's post.
As far as the outfit goes, it was actually so warm that it was slightly uncomfortable to keep the cardigan on all day. I'm not complaining, though, as I got to break out my favorite pair of shorts that I've ever owned. I created those from an old pair of pants that my grandmother gave me and have embraced the mom shorts effect to the fullest degree. Although one of my more casual looks, this was perfect for hanging out outside all day!
