His & Hers: Black V Neck

One of the most underutilized item in a more "dressed up" wardrobe is a tee shirt. I've got stacks of basic tees, band tees, and interested screen printed tees that I love wearing with skirts and blazers. However, I know it can sometimes be hard to style something so basic without feeling kind of blah. That effect goes for both men and women- a basic black v neck sweater or tee can just seem like we didn't really try. Patrick and I decided to tackle this styling challenge to bring a little bit more oomph to our basic black v necks.

Hers:
Black v neck tee, cobalt cardigan, and vintage style frame purse, Target. Metallic brocade skirt, Francesca's. Studded belt, thrifted. Leather buckle flats, Coach (similar options here). Bullet case and stone earrings, Mischief of an Artist by way of Nothing Too Fancy

I'm all about mixing basics with much more luxe pieces. This shimmery skirt has been in my wardrobe since the holiday sale season, but I've just never been able to dress it down enough for daytime wear. Fortunately, this styling challenge provided me the perfect opportunity. I tried to combine more prim elements, such as the handbag, flats, and cardigan with items that have a bit more edge like my beautiful new earrings from Nothing Too Fancy (a great local store that I discuss here) and my studded belt. As you can see, I'm a fan of the cobalt and black color combination lately considering I'm wearing that in these two most recent posts.

His:
Black V neck sweater and olive chinos, Gap. White button down, gift. Green polka dotted tie, thrifted. Desert boots, Target (his Valentine's Day gift from me!).

Patrick typically prefers a more professional look, as I've said before. This time around was no exception. Instead of styling a plain black tee, which isn't necessarily practical for his aesthetic, he instead decided to work a basic sweater into his outfit. Although he's always going after bright colors if we are out looking at clothes, he's a neutral mix master. The black, olive, and light brown combination that he put together perfectly sets off his brighter tie while still being a great color trio to transition throughout the seasons.

I hope you've enjoyed this installment of His & Hers. We always have such fun trying to see what looks we can put together with the similar items from our closet. I definitely encourage any of you to do this with a boyfriend or even just friends to see all the individual spins that get put on one basic item. Hopefully, we've inspired you and be sure to check back next Friday for another His & Hers post!
